As I’m moving all my telephone apparatus over to VoIP of some sort, even if this means having to replace or use a suitable ATA (Analogue Telephone Adapter), it was time to look at the box I most feared – My trusty old Sky+ Box.

I occasionally watch Sky BoxOffice, normally by recording in the middle of the night and playing it back a few days later.  For this to work, the Sky box needs to be connected to a phone line.

This article describes the work I completed in order to make this work with my Elastix PBX.

HowTo: Elastix Incoming SIP Trunk Calls

For the last few weeks I have been bashing away at trying to get an inbound SIP trunk to go somewhere sensible, rather than to ‘Number not in service’ message being played to a caller.

The problem is that the inbound SIP call is classified by Asterisk as an ‘Unknown Peer’ with an error message similar to: “Received incoming SIP connection from unknown peer to xxxxxxxxx”.  This means that the call can’t be processed correctly.  After processing the information from a selection of forums, I have come up with this solution.

This article describes the changes needed to allow incoming SIP calls to be processed correctly, like any other trunk.  This article does not cover SIP extensions, only SIP trunks.

HowTo: Asterisk VoiceMail Issues

After setting up my new Elastix based FreePBX/Asterisk, the voice mail system was getting full of empty messages with a continuous tone.  This was being caused by people hanging up before or after the tone to leave a message and also after any message left.

This was starting to get really annoying, so I decided it was time to do something about it.

HowTo: Plain install of Elastix 1.6

Here are the screen captures and instructions of the install of Elastix 1.6 onto a Virtual System.  But the details should be valid and supported system.
