FXO Line Card

The single channel FXO line card I ordered at the end of last week turned up today. Wahoo!

I have now taken out the loan TDM400 (1x FXO, 1x FXS) card that I borrowed from a friend.  And I never did get get the FXS module recognised by the Elastix software.  I guess it is a duffen.  Shame really, it would have been interesting to test it out.  The FXO port worked perfectly, uhmmm.

So after pulling the TDM card, I inserted my ATCOM AX-100P which is a copy of a genuine Digium card.  Ran the hardware detection bit inside Elastix and it detected it.  It had to be ‘detected’ twice before it came on line.  And I also had to reboot the server after ‘detecting’ before any calls could be made through it.  But after all that, it appears to be OK.

I need to order a suitable cable, as the card came from IPChitChat without one.  Not surprising considering the price.  I will order a second card for my other trunk in the next few days.

But all is well.  Basic calls in and out of the system are working OK.

The only minor annoyance I have (and it is nothing to do with my end) is that the IAX2 trunk via TescosInternetPhone is always returning a ‘busy’ message every time I have tried to use it.  This is a bit of a bind and not promising if they don’t have enough channels to cope with their service.  I noticed it was often busy while I was away in Orkney earlier this year.  It does not bode well, I might have to find another supplier.  The nice thing about TIP, was that I was dealing with a UK company (certainly for billing), it used IAX2 which is much better than SIP for trunks and you could open up multiple trunks through a single account.

All I need to do is document what I have done.  Primarily for you guys out there and for my own records.  Looks like I will be busy for a few evenings.

  • Definitly don’t buy this type of cheap FXO card, especially if you want it to work with the UK (BT) CLI. I just could not get it to work. It is a false saving. They are perfectly OK if CLI is not required, but I need the CLI to aid routing of calls a filtering ‘Blacklisted’ numbers.

I have borrowed two different TDM400 clone cards from a friend and they both work everytime now that I have got the settings correct (see article).

I will be ordering my own TDM400 card with at least 2 FXO (trunk) modules. And probably 2 FXS (Handset) modules to install into my system in the next few weeks.

  • The second FXO PCI card has turned up and I have installed it into the system. I just shut the system down, plugged in the card. Connected the PSTN line and turned the system on again. Had a look in the hardware section of Elastix and there it was.

I configured the new trunk with almost the same settings as the original FXO card (just a different CLI as it was a totally different line) and it works perfectly.

  • I hame now ordered a second card for my system to cover both PSTN lines. Along with some line cables to join the cards to the phone lines. So these should be here in a couple of days.
