DMZ Virtual Host

VM Host
This box houses some virtual systems. This is a skinny Ubuntu system primary function is to host various virtual systems using SUN/Oracle VirtualBox software.
Currently it houses my Internet facing web sites, such as this site. It is designed to host multiple DMZ facing systems in a single box.
The specification of this system is:
- Intel Celeron E3200 2.4Ghz (Dual Core)
- 2Gb 240Pin DDR2 800Mhz
- ATX Tower Case With 400w PSU
This bare bone system was sourced from Novatech in the UK. The specification of systems from this supplier are always changing and you may not be able to source the exact same system.
To the system I added a 500GB Samsung SATA II hardrive and a suitable DVD writer. The hard drive may appear small, but as it is only designed to host small virtual systems, it is perfectly adequate and could be expanded in the future if needed, using LVM.
I installed Ubuntu Server 9.10 (64bit), DenyHosts, SSHD and DenyHosts and that is all. The actual fully function web site with Apache, PHP and MySQL are installed into a virtual machine hosted within this host box.
I am quite happy with the power consumption of around70W, including the UPS. The box is both cheap and functional. Plus I was able to order it, collect (90min round trip) and had it operating the bare Ubuntu within about 3hrs.
